The App Planet “Best of Show” Mobile Application Award Competition
GSMA Mobile World Congress 2010

Overview
The App Planet “Best of Show” Award recognises the most innovative, compelling and creative mobile application – business or consumer – published by an exhibitor at the 2010 Mobile World Congress (MWC10).  

From social networking applications to industry-specific vertical applications for business, to applications for education, using the camera, motion sensors, GPS enabled or other features, the awards judges will be looking for a breakthrough in technology and the creation of a new level of mobile application experience for users on mobile phones.

The judges, who will remain anonymous, will visit each exhibitor that has entered the contest, to demo the entered application, on Monday, 15 February and Tuesday, 16 February of MWC10. Judges will not identify themselves.  Judges will confer at the end of both days and will select a winner to be announced on Wednesday, 17 February 2010.

Eligibility
The App Planet “Best of Show” Mobile Application Award competition is open to any company exhibiting at Mobile World Congress 2010.  Eligible companies include:

  • Mobile Network Operators
  • Application Developers (software companies)
  • Content Owners and Providers
  • Device manufacturers
  • Or partnerships between any of the above

Entry
Each entrant will be required to submit a complete entry form providing all requested information about the each mobile application entered. The deadline for entry is Wednesday, 10 February, 2010 (23:59 CET).

Entry Fees
The Competition is free. There are no Entry Fees.

Judging Criteria
Mobile applications must be commercially available to be considered and must have been launched prior to, the entry deadline of Wednesday, 10 February, 2010 (23:59 CET). The mobile application must be available in at least one country/market. The mobile application must be able to be demo’ed upon request at the exhibitor’s booth. Failure to demo an application, for any reason, including lack of booth personnel, is sufficient to eliminate an application. Entries for the App Planet “Best of Show” Mobile Application Award competition will be judged on the following main criteria:

  • The application provides a compelling experience for users
  • The application must demo flawlessly
  • It is genuinely innovative, or unique in terms of a breakthrough in technology, graphics or usability
  • It makes good use of mobility, e.g., location-based services
  • 'Cool factor' (e.g., consumer content delivered) or business productivity delivered (e.g., SFA application integrated with a “cloud” back-end data center)
  • Ease of use/simplicity
  • Value for money

Voting
The Jury votes for the different entries according to a set of criteria, including innovation and technical achievement, commercial potential and personal taste. The individual results of the voting process will not be disclosed. All decisions by the Jury are made unanimously and are final.

Prizes
The App Planet “Best of Show” Mobile Application Award competition winner will receive:

  • Photo announcement via the Show Daily on Wednesday, 17 February 2011
  • The App Planet “Best of Show” Mobile Application trophy to display in your stand.
  • A feature sentence (10-15 words) and  link to official website included in the post-event MWC10, Thank You E-Mail, that is distributed to Congress attendees.
